Assignment Two -- Network Discovery
|
Let's have some fun with this assignment. The idea is to find where you
have network access and get an idea of how your access is linked.
|
For this assignment you will need to record a few network addresses from the lecture.
We can use the CCSF college web site and the instructors web site as our targets
(we may have to use www.sfsu.edu I tested it while creating this lab).
Ping and Traceroute both of them from the classroom (or computer lab) as a comparison.
|
|
-
Find 4 locations (not on the CCSF campus) where you can access the internet.
Keep in mind you do not have to buy anything for this assignment. If you
use a coffee shop for example, you usually can connect from just outside,
or just go in and look like you are waiting for someone. However, why not
have a coffee while you work...
-
From each of the 4 locations run the traceroute program (you can do this
with a phone - iNetTools on a iPhone). Record the path your pings take to
get to the target.
-
Create a Word processor or spreadsheet document and show how the routes
from each of the 4 locations to the same target compare with each other.
Extra credit for any type of commonality analysis.
-
