Assignment Four - Memory Reconfiguration
This time around we are going to focus on one of the key parts of the computer system, the RAM.
We would like to confirm in this lab that you can configure your system to run with 2 different RAM configurations.

Turn on your computer to verify it is in a working state. (Always do this first!)

Use your research computer to determine what the possible RAM configurations are for your motherboard. You can either go to the manufacturers website like www.dell.com or the a memory manufacturers website like www.crucial.com.

Be sure to record any slot dependencies (only in pairs, 1st and 3rd slot as a pair, etc)
Since your computer is already in a working memory configuration you really only have to come up with one additional configuration.

Record the:
  • starting configuration
  • memory module size
  • number of slots filled
  • which slot each module came from
  • which direction the module was facing
Now use the information from the research you did on the memory for your computer and upgrade or downgrade your memory configuration to a 2nd working configuration. Try to upgrade and I will attempt to get some extra memory, but a lower memory configuration will work for this assignment.

Record the:
  • new configuration
  • memory module size
  • number of slots filled
  • which slot each module came from
  • which direction the module was facing
Reassemble your computer. Turn it on and make sure it works.
