Document Readability
In this assignment you will take a document that I will provide and evaluate it for readability. You will compare the Microsoft Word readability statistics to the same statistics on a site I am providing a link to. Then you will alter the document using the Thesaurus and what you have read about document readability to improve the documents readability and lower the age group rating for the document.
  • Here are the Instructions for the first part of this Assignment:
    1. Download this document and save it on your storage device.
    2. Open the file you just saved in your word processor.Use the Readability tools your Word Processor has to determine the readability of this document.
    3. Keep the document open and open a browser to this website.
    4. Copy your document and paste it into the text tab box on the Readability-Score website. Then Compare the scores provided by your word processor to the scores from the website.
    5. The 1st part of this assignment is to provide me with a short summary of your comparison, are they the same, are the similar, or are they completely different.
  • Here are the Instructions for the second part of this Assignment:
    1. Using your Thesaurus and what you have read in the chapter about document readability to change the Flesch-Kincaid Readability Formula from a 45 to over 50 AND change the average grade level score from a 14.6 to a score of 13.9 or below. Note: you are not limited to the Thesaurus in your Word Processor in this assignment. You can use the internet to help you out.
    2. The 2nd part of this assignment is to provide me with a short summary of how well the internal Thesaurus worked for you, did you have to go to the internet for synonyms just a little or all the time.
Submit your modified file as an attachment in an email Use "Lab Assignment 10 " for the Subject line and remember to identify yourself by name and class in the email body.
