Assignment Eight - Linux Configuration
In this assignment you will perform some basic Linux Ubuntu configuration tasks. Take your dual boot Linux/Windows system and boot into Linux Ubuntu. Implement the list of configuration tasks as indicated below. Feel free to explore other areas of the OS. The idea here is to help make you comfortable manipulating the configuration.
On your lab computer, perform the following configuration tasks:
  1. Add 5 users to this computer. One will be your backup admin account and the remaining four will be normal users. You can use your family as users or make up names.
  2. Create a shared work directory in the root (c:) directory. Divide it into 3 parts (for example Engineering, Accounting, Management) using sub-directories. Create a user group for each sub-directory. Assign 1 normal user to each group. Verify that that user and only that user has access to their group directory.
  3. Security Actions, perform the following security actions:
    • Perform an update or verify the system is currently updated to the current set of updates
    • While Linux is much less likely be attacked by a virus it is not immune. Find and install the GUI anti-virus software (Clam) and run it. Note: It will almost always find misbehaving apps that are not malware.
    • Activate the client firewall in such a way that the browser still works.
  4. Download some basic applications and get them to work - they are all Open-Source (FREE) so if it asks you to pay, you are doing it wrong. Ask for my help
    • An office suite - LibreOffice (Word Processor, Spreadsheet, etc)
    • FTP Client - Filezilla
    • A good browser - Firefox or Chrome
    • An Image Editor - GIMP
    • A Project Management tool - LibreOffice
    • A Financial Management tool - GnuCash
You have just performed a computer client setup for the average office work space, something you may end up doing if you get a job in this industry.
Once you have completed this assignment, take screen shots of your machine to prove you have completed the assignment. But instead of sending me 20 screen shots use the image software to collage them into a single screen shot. If you have trouble ask me to help you.

Assignment Submission Criteria
While your assignment will not be evaluated as stringently as it would if this were an English class, it is expected that you will make an effort to use capitalization, sentence structure and punctuation appropriately.
To turn in this assignment you will go to the Netacad Canvas shell for this class. Each assignment you need to turn in will have a submission link that will allow you to turn in that assignment
