Assignment 5 -- File System Exploration
The objective of this assignment is for you to explore the Linux file system and see where things are at. Think of this as a scavenger hunt where you are trying to find different items to use on a quest. To accomplish this goal I have created a sequence of items I want you to look for:
  • What directory do I need to be in to perform the -ls command and see the sub-directory /etc?
  • What directory would I need to be in to see the name of my plugged in flash drive when I do a -ls command? (Hint: plug in a flash drive and look for it by name)
  • Where would I find symbolic links named "exe", "root" and "cwd" in the same directory?
  • What is the last line in the file release-upgrades?
  • What is the default-display-manager on your computer right now. (hint: Look for the file: default-display-manager)
  • Where did you find the default-display-manager file?
  • Where would I find the executable for the -ls command?
