Multicast Routing – Sending to more than 1 destination

Multicast routing is used for service like Audio or Video streaming where a single source is providing the same output to multiple Destinations

There are 2 main protocols used for Multicast Routing

IGMP- Internet Group Management Protocol

PIM- Protocol Independent Multicast

Multicast Address Range 224.0.0.0 to 239.255.255.255

3 Versions IGMP1,2 and 3

2 Versions PIM-DM & PIM-SM

DM – Dense Mode

SM – Sparse Mode
