How Does Encryption Work ?

Encryption uses keys somewhat the same way you would use a key to lock your mailbox

In this metaphor the postal employee has a key that allows placement of your mail in a secure state until you can retrieve it

At some point after that you would arrive to the secure mail repository and use your key to retrieve your mail
