Dual Stack Topology

One Key difference between Switches and Routers is the ability to deal with a Dual Stack Topology (IPv6 and IPv4 at the same time). Switches are at level 2 and do not use the IP address But Routers need to deal with both stacks (IPv6 and IPv4) if they are active
