Definition of a VLAN

VLANs have the following characteristics:

• You can divide User devices from different groups using the same Switch
• Makes Network Management more manageable, because:
• Broadcasts, multicasts and unicasts are isolated in the individual VLAN
• Each VLAN will have its own unique range of IP addressing
• Smaller broadcast domains

VLANS use one set of Physical Networking Equipment to create More Than 1 Local Area Network
