The Layer 3 Switch and SVIs

Advantages of using Layer 3 switches:

• They are much faster than router-on-a-stick
• Does not use a separate Router
• Trunks can still be used between Switches
• Latency is much lower

Each VLAN on the switch gets one SVI on the switch, performing the same functions for the VLAN as a router interface would

Disadvantages of using Layer 3 switches:

• More Expensive
