CDP – Cisco Discovery Protocol

Cisco Discovery Protocol (CDP) is a proprietary Layer 2 discovery protocol

It is enabled on all Cisco devices by default

Network administrators use CDP to configure & troubleshoot network devices

CDP information is sent out CDP-enabled ports in periodic broadcasts

CDP information includes the IP address, IOS version, platform & native VLAN

The device receiving the CDP message updates its CDP database
