Packet Forwarding to a Next Hop Router

Note: This process will vary for other types of Layer 2 networks

If the route entry indicates that the destination IP address is on a remote network, the packet is forwarded to the next-hop router indicated in the route entry

192.168.1.0/27

192.168.1.32/27

200.1.1.0/30

ARP and ICMPv6 Neighbor Discovery will occur for determining the destination MAC address of the packet

The difference is that the router will use the IP address of the next-hop router instead of the destination IP address of the packet
