Assignment 7 -- Status Your Plan and Calculate Earned Value
In this assignment you will use the event you outlined in assignment 1 for which you created a time-based plan for (assignment 4) and resource loaded (assignment 6). This time, you will take the steps necessary to calculate Earned Value for your project.

For this to work, you will need to perform the steps in the correct order -- so read the steps below before starting the process:
  • If you have not already done this, set the baseline for your project. Remember, all tasks except the first one should have a predecessor and all tasks except the last one should have a successor. This must be done prior to setting the baseline.
  • Simulate forward progress. Status about one quarter of your tasks. They should be statused consistently with the logic in your plan -- which does not always happen in real life, but we will keep your example simple. On at least 3 tasks, status them as on going -- started but not yet complete.
  • Review your project using one of the reports and make sure it looks logical -- no activities in odd places (wrong year, etc.)

Hybrid Class Assignment - Perform an Earned Value Analysis
The assignment above is a significant undertaking if you do it correctly. So the Hybrid Class assignment for this week is done in conjunction with the weekly lab assignment.
  • Perform an Earned Value Assesment of your Project:

By either using Project Management Software that supports Earned Value or by creating a spreadsheet, calculate the following items for your project:
    1. BCWS (aka PV) -- Budgeted Cost of Work Scheduled or Present Value
    2. ACWP (aka AC) -- Actual Cost of Work Performed or Actual Cost
    3. BCWP (aka EV) -- Budgeted Cost of Work Performed or Earned Value
    4. CV -- Cost Variance
    5. SV -- Schedule Variance
    6. CPI -- Cost Performance Index
    7. SPI -- Schedule Performance Index
    8. BAC -- Budget At Completion
    9. ETC -- Estimate To Complete
    10. EAC -- Estimate At Completion
  • Proof of Completion --

I would like 2 items from you for the above:
    1. The first item --
      • A table showing the values BCWS, ACWP, ... EAC for all of the objects in your plan. You can either do this by turning on the appropriate columns in your Project Management tool (if they exist in the tool you are using) ** NOTE -- If you choose this option, please send me a screenshot of your table. Don't send the actual table **
      •                    OR
      • You can create a table for the above values in a spreadsheet. ** NOTE -- If you choose this option, send me the actual spreadsheet. **
    2. The second item --
      • The standard Earned Value Status graphic (Google Earned Value graph example). While there are 2 options for doing this, the spreadsheet option is usually easier.
        • If your Project Management tool supports Earned Value graphics, simply create a graphic showing cumulative AC, PV and EV over the life of the project (AC goes start to end, PV and EV go from the start to the "time now" line)
        • The only other option if you Project Management software does not support Earned Value graphics -- use a spreadsheet and enter cumulative values per time period (Day, Week or Month) for AC, EV and PV. Then create a graph showing cumulative AC, PV and EV over the life of the project (AC goes start to end, PV and EV go from the start to the "time now" line)

Assignment Submission Criteria

While your assignment will not be evaluated as stringently as it would if this were an English class, it is expected that you will make an effort to use capitalization, sentence structure and punctuation appropriately.
To turn in this assignment you will go to the NSC Canvas shell for this class.

Submit assignment 7 .pod files plus your Hybrid assignment analysis. These should be submitted as separate documents. These need to be in a format that everyone can read. Do not submit your assignments any other way.
