Assignment 9 -- Calculate Risk For Your Project
In this assignment you will use the PERT technique I discussed in the lecture to assign risk to your project. Since you are not likely to have support personnel to question, I will let you fabricate the answers but they should be logical.
  • Start the process by using a spreadsheet. You usually can export a list of your tasks from your Project Management software. You may also use the PERT report interface of your Project Management software if it has one. List all of your child tasks (no summaries, no events) in your risk sheet
  • For each task, ask the expert (SME) 3 questions about that task. You can simulate asking this and answer your own questions or use another student as a partner to answer each others questions. The 3 questions are:
    1. What is the best case scenario for completion of this task ?
    2. What is the worst case scenario for completion of this task ?
    3. What is the most likely case scenario for completion of this task ?
  • Change the durations on your tasks to match the results of the PERT equation: Duration = (BC + (4 * ML) + WC)/6
  • For this assignment I want to see the Risk Report -- either the spreadsheet or the PERT report from your Project Management tool

Hybrid Class Assignment - Risk and Project Success
Is there a correlation between the amount of risk a company accepts and how successful they are in business ? I would like you to use about the amount of time you would be in class (2.5 hours) to research this topic.
**Note: I just Googled some keywords on this and got a plethora of results
  • Research the correlation between Risk and Success and then research the following and provide between 1 to 2 pages on your understanding of this relationship. Be sure to address:

    • Is there a correlation -- if so what is it ?
    • Is there any data to back up your assertion ?
    • Did you discover any specialized fields of employment for people interested in this type of work ?
    • How might this impact IT Project Management efforts ?

  • Proof of Completion:

  • I again would like to see 2 deliverables to prove you have completed this:
    1. Send me the spreadsheet / report for the first part as attachments
    2. A single document, that is 1 to 2 pages long that answers the questions indicated above

Assignment Submission Criteria
While your assignment will not be evaluated as stringently as it would if this were an English class, it is expected that you will make an effort to use capitalization, sentence structure and punctuation appropriately.
To turn in this assignment you will go to the NSC Canvas shell for this class. Submit assignment 9. These should be submitted as separate documents. These need to be in a format that everyone can read. Do not submit your assignments any other way.
