• The term MBR is a way to identify a Partitioning Method by using a element of the method that people are familiar with (The MBR)
• It worked fine for older systems, but in newer systems the boot loader would not even fit in the MBR, requiring additional work arounds
• With no standardization each Firmware/OS pair had to re-solve the problem
